Using public and exhibition spaces to develop events that combine art, spectacle and collective experience, the ‘Sound Gardens’ exhibition proposes to display dialogues between urban nature and sound art. Six contemporary artists present site-specific works conceived for six gardens in Madrid. The artists have used different strategies and references to create their works, such as the Second Life, semantics, semiotics, multi-culture, and the marks of gender in language. Participating artists included José Iges and Concha Jerez, major references in sound art in the national art scene. O.R.G.I.A and Giardino Sonoro are two artists collective that create works focused on the sound and visual experiences using new technologies to address the symbols and semantics of the space under intervention. Emerging artist Mario-Paul presents a real and virtual garden proposal via Second Life, and artist Hong-Kai Wang transfers the Coney Island garden in New York to the 21
st century urban European via sound and colour-light.
