Prix du Frac Bretagne – Art Norac 2023 selects Céline Le Guillou for the Inclusartiz Residency Program

Held through a partnership between Frac Bretagne and Instituto Inclusartiz, the award chose a young French artist for a six-week artistic residency in Rio de Janeiro

Launched in 2020, the Prix du Frac Bretagne – Art Norac, promoted by Frac Bretagne, aims to support the international professional development of artists living and working in Brittany, a region in the extreme northwest of France. This year, the award was held in partnership with Instituto Inclusartiz, electing one of the 43 applicants for a six-week residency at the institute’s headquarters, in Rio de Janeiro.

Among the applications received, a jury of art professionals established a selection of four finalists – Cécile Le Guillou, Charlotte Vitaioli, Claire Guetta and Louis Guillaume – whose works are on display at Frac Bretagne, in Rennes, until January 14, 2024. After getting to know the production of each artist in their studios, curators Victor Gorgulho and Lucas Albuquerque, from Instituto Inclusartiz, presented the Prix du Frac Bretagne – Art Norac 2023 to Céline Le Guillou.

“Although it was a difficult choice, since the four finalists have exceptional productions and research, our decision was made, in the end, by Céline Le Guillou. Her production in painting and sculpture presents a surprising maturity within her young career as an artist. We strongly believe that her period in artistic residency in Rio de Janeiro will be of immense contribution to her journey”, says Victor Gorgulho, Chief Curator of Instituto Inclusartiz.

Born in 1994, Céline Le Guillou currently lives and works between Quimper and Courtils. His artistic approach is focused on attention to the materials she uses and the creation process itself. She trained at the Annecy Higher School of Art and, later, at the European Higher School of Art in Brittany, where she completed her studies in 2018. In addition, she improved her ceramic techniques at the European Institute of Ceramic Arts on the Upper Rhine.

The artist’s residency period at Instituto Inclusartiz, scheduled to take place between April and May 2024, will end with a solo exhibition, on the second floor of the cultural center, with new works produced on site and closely monitored by Lucas Albuquerque, curator of the institution’s Artistic Residency and Research Program.

“I believe that our residency program will provide an enriching cultural exchange and the chance for Celine to expand her artistic horizons. I look forward to seeing how she will explore the influences and inspirations that Rio de Janeiro has to offer and how this will be reflected in her production”, concludes Lucas Albuquerque.
