Lucio Salvatore closes his artist residency at Inclusartiz Cultural Center with a solo exhibition

BURITI, which will open to the public on May 4, gathers unpublished studies developed by the Italian-Brazilian artist over the last four months

On Thursday, May 4, Inclusartiz Cultural Center opens to the public BURITI, a collection of new experiments by Italian-Brazilian artist Lucio Salvatore, which marks the conclusion of his residency period in the institution’s collective studio, in Gamboa, at the port area of Rio de Janeiro.

Along four months, Salvatore produced at Inclusartiz’s space the conceptual bases for the new assemblage of the exhibition Genic Flow (Fluxo Gênico), an individual exhibition inaugurated in 2022 at the Museum of the Environment at the Botanical Garden of Rio de Janeiro and which, this year, with the support of Instituto Inclusartiz, will travel to Europe taking fragments of Brazil’s biodiversity history. The results of these studies can be seen in BURITI.

“Last winter, I presented Genic Flow at the Museum of the Environment, with the support of Instituto Inclusartiz. President Frances Reynolds’ vision of promoting art production engaged with important contemporary issues was decisive for the development of my project, and has been fundamental at this moment when I am deepening the research to take the exhibition to Europe,” says.

Developed under the guidance of Inclusartiz’s curatorial team, the research presented at BURITI, which will occupy the Cultural Center’s second floor until May 28, features trees, fruits and seeds, outlining the richness of Brazilian flora.

“In my research, plants, which in art languages ​​have historically played a role in the landscape, have become central protagonists of the narrative, sharing their stories of survival, migration, adaptation and coexistence, highlighting the importance of embracing the complexity of their histories”, explains the artist.
